Abstract:
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the main active compound in green tea. It has the functions of anti-cancer, anti-obesity, alleviating metabolic syndrome and so on. This paper reviews the researches about EGCG on prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus, and summarizes the functions of EGCG in hypoglycemic activity, insulin resistance, insulin secretion and common complications of diabetes. This paper aims to provide theoretical support for studying the alleviation of metabolic syndrome by green tea.
